Jim Is Bringing Sexy Back

Vicar of Dibley. Nothing more to add.

ANSER Kind of Gets it Backwards

Upset that nasty right-wing bloggers drove Dunkin Donuts to take down the (annoying)Rachael Ray ad where she seems to be wearing a statement of pro-Palestinian resistance clothing they want to boycott the store. See this for more. Really they should be patronizing the store to show their support for its attempt to support the resistance.

Eduardo Vows Return This Summer

Eduardo is recovering quicker then hoped from the dramatic leg injury in February. He hopes to return at the end of the Summer. This is great news for Arsenal as their season took a nose dive after his injury. With his return, Van Persie and Adebayor they should be set at striker for next year. See this for more.

Baseball, err politics, been berry berry good to me...

Maybe public service, or something. Great analysis of Scott McClellan here.

Eighties Big Hair Pop

Expose were huge in the late Eighties. They were big hair, spandex pop queens and a mainstay of early VH-1, which was the soft video channel as compared to MTV. Here they are on Solid Gold with one of their biggest hits.

And also to illustrate how weird music was in that era listen to Marylin McCoo talk about the upcoming songs on Solid Gold - Smokey Robinson and The Greg Allman Band. What a mix!!

Obama Runs Afoul of Insufferable Health Critics

Obama is a smoker, or at least one who is trying to quit. This has cause the anti-smoking forces to unleash on him. See this for more. I am not a big fan of smoking, but it is kind of his choice. If he does get elected the chances of him dying from a smoking related disease in the next eight years is remote. I don't think a Presidential campaign is the right time to try to quit.

Shocking Stuff

At work we were joking about the PM having a case of single malt scotch whiskey to hand out when we reach a certain milestone. Then someone said the only way they have drunk scotch is mixed with coke. How bad is that? Anyway of course there is no such case of scotch. Sometimes people just amaze me, how can you adulterate good scotch with coke?

It Is Always Easy to be Generous When You Are Losing

See this. Enough said.

Reverse Recruiting

I guess in the internet business it is easier to find people. In my job when we hire somebody it takes weeks to find a couple of good resumes. Then we have to go through the hiring process and signing them on and starting them. I understand the psychology, but I don't know how cost effective this is.

Champions League Finale Illustrates Soccer's Issues

Man U won on penalty shots over Chelsea in the Champions League finale. It ended with a 1-1 draw in the rain. This is why soccer (football) can be so pathetic. See this for more.

The Connells '74-75

I don't know why but this song always make me sad and nostalgic.

Airsoft M14

It looks good. You do not want to be hit by this.

Tampa Bay in First Place - World Ends Tomorrow

In what may be a short lived but stunning achievement the Tampa Bay Devil Rays moved into first place in the AL East by beating the Yankees last night. The Yankees are now last in the division. The Red Sox trail the Rays by a game. This must be the first time the Rays have achieved this. From this correspondent a hearty well done.

Spector and the Patriots

As much as I hate the Patriots I don't think it is a good idea for Congress to investigate them. I don't understand though why the NFL keeps letting Arlen Spector reveal things that they should have. First he was the one to say that the Patriots have been doing this since 2000. Now he explains how they actually used the tapes to their advantage. The NFL should be the one explaining these things, not a US Senator. Anyway read this for more.

John McCain Goes Off the Deep End

Some how I got on the RNC mailing list, maybe the NRA sold my name or something, but I get constant emails from John McCain. Todays takes the cake as it is for "eco friendly clothes". I think he is barking up the wrong tree or something, but it does show that he is trying for the whole global warming vote. Good luck there.

Cat on A Ladder

Arsenal Season Ends

Arsenal finished comfortably in third place as Man U won the title. Chelsea drew eliminating all hope of their winning. It is easy to criticize Arsenal but their season ended when Eduardo was knocked out. With Van Perse missing he provided the support for Adebayor that was winning pretty much everything but the Carling Cup. With him gone they quickly went downhill losing FA, Champions League and a stretch where they could not score in the Premiership. Considering where they were expected to finish third is no slouch and it allows Champions League play next year. Wenger will have to make some signings to bolster his side or expect Bendtner to pick up the pace. We will see. For more there is this.

All Eyes on Wigan

Man U plays Wigan on Mothers Day. All the rest of the league hope for a draw. If Chelsea wins then there will be even more pressure. Arsenal finishes with Sunderland. They are definitely going to finish third so another year of Champions League play is guaranteed.

British Historians Protest Forgeries

It turns out that someone was planting false documents about British policy in WW II in the UK's National Archives. See this for more. Now several prominent British historians are asking the person responsible be punished. Once the documents were found to be forgeries it turned out to be easy to find the culprit. For medical reasons no prosecution was attempted. Continued practices like this will only undermine the archives, whose reputation is based on the accuracy of their contents.

Institutional Investors Sue Yahoo

Well this was very predictable that some of the larger shareholders of Yahoo are suing for not accepting Microsoft's offer. See this for more. The article says they may have a hard time winning, but Yahoo's defense of MSFT not negotiating may not be that good as well.

Country Stereotypes

I have always wondered if songs like these reflect or reinforce the stereotype of the American country?

Anniversary

We celebrated our 16th Wedding Anniversary this weekend. We stayed at the Westin Hotel and ate at Conner's Steak and Seafood. If you can afford it the Westin is very nice. We especially liked the room decor. Picture of roses attached.

Corrupt Politicians Excuses

This is classic. South Carolina is moving to regulate payday lenders. Many of the State Senators involved are lawyers participating in a class action lawsuit against payday lenders. They claim there is no conflict!! See this for more. Key quote from the article is: "Hawkins and the other legislators representing former payday borrowers say there is no conflict of interest. They said their role as lawyers is to repair past damages by specific lenders, while their role as legislators is to consider new laws to solve future problems."
